Studenti e Insegnanti a scuola d’Europa
Tutti noi oggi entriamo quotidianamente in contatto con l’Unione Europea. Utilizziamo l’euro, aderiamo al programma “Erasmus”, viaggiamo per le capitali europee senza dover utilizzare il passaporto. Ma sappiamo cos’è effettivamente l’Unione Europea e che impatto ha sulla vita di noi cittadini europei? Conosciamo i valori alla base del processo d’integrazione europea?
Troppo spesso si avverte una distanza tra i cittadini e le istituzioni europee, percepite come una macchina burocratica dalla quale difendersi o istituzioni che possono risolvere tutti i problemi nazionali.
Tuttavia, bisogna tenere a mente i passi che sono stati compiuti grazie all’integrazione europea che hanno contribuito a diffondere principi di democrazia, pace, giustizia, sviluppo economico e sociale. L’Unione Europea sicuramente non è una realtà perfetta, ma è fondamentale non dimenticare che essa è nata come un progetto di pace in un continente devastato da incessanti guerre e che i risultati raggiunti ad oggi non sono acquisiti una volta per tutte ma è necessario l’impegno di tutti per continuare a mantenerli e nel tempo rafforzarli.

The European Union affects all us
Nowadays all of us come into daily contact with the European Union. We use the euro, we take part in the “Erasmus” Programme, we travel through Europe without having to use a passport. But do we really know what the European Union is and what its impact on us, European citizens, is? Do we know the values that underpin the process of the European integration? Too often we feel a distance between European citizens and the European institutions. They are perceived either as a bureaucratic machine from which we have to defend ourselves or as an institution that can solve all the problems on national level .
However, we should keep in mind the steps that have been made thanks to the European integration that have helped spread the principles of democracy, peace, justice as well as economic and social development. The European Union is definitely not yet a perfect reality, but we should always remember that it was born to bring peace on a continent ravaged by incessant wars and that the results achieved to date have not been acquired once and for all, but our constant commitment is necessary to continue to maintain and strengthening them at the same time.
